Can’t I just get an AI to do this?
Up to a point: yes. AI helps you phrase questions, writes analysis scripts and explains unfamiliar code. The question is no longer whether you use it, but whether you can judge what it is doing. My training courses also cover where AI genuinely helps and where the scope for error is too wide.
Because the expensive mistakes are the quiet ones. You can ask an AI to build an entire survey website, but from then on every small change goes through the AI again. And with every round an agreement can quietly drop out: “strongly agree” = 5 becomes = 1, nothing crashes, nobody notices. A tool like LimeSurvey constrains you – and gives you certainty and control in return.
You also keep control if you roughly understand how an analysis script in R is put together. The analysis runs locally on your own machine; the AI sees the script, not your data. So you need neither be afraid of code nor worry about data protection when you get help with an analysis script: “I would like to produce a histogram with blue bars in R” is instruction enough – any AI chat manages that, including the ones behind no paywall.

Felix Kretschmer
I studied industrial psychology with computer science as a minor and deepened that combination in a Master’s in Human Factors – ever since, I have liked working where people meet technology. I have been a freelance consultant since 2016; in between I coordinated a project on AI in teaching at the Office of the Vice Dean for Teaching and Learning at Charité, and I currently research and teach at TU Berlin.
What I bring is above all an eye for detail: in questionnaires, a single turn of phrase often decides whether the answers can be analysed at all. I automate where it pays off – not for the sake of the technology, but so that the work is already done the next time round. And that people find their way around what I build is not an extra for me but the starting point.
Away from work I am devoted to every sport that involves a racket and a ball.
